rubber encased dumbbells will work on this also. It is NOT suggested to use this rack with your neoprene or vinyl coated weights as the coating will become damaged and may peal off the underlying metal weight.
· Note: the area is 5" but you can always use the top portion of the rail to face up (giving it a lip for the dumbbell head to rest on) and place the bottom portion of the rail to face down which will give you unlimited space between handles
